China and The Bahamas Tenth Celebration of Good Relations

On May 23rd, 2007, the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, Ms. Gu Xiulian, hosted a group of Bahamians, including the Head of Mission and two Bahamian students, to a luncheon to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and The Bahamas, at the Diaoyutai State Guest House, in Beijing.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Mr. He Yafei, Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Li Jianping, Director General of the Chinese People's Friendship Association for Foreign Countries and other Government dignitaries also attended the function. The two Bahamian students were William Seymour, second year medical student, and Matthew Arnett, first year business and economics student.

Exchanging greeting and congratulatory remarks are Mr. Miller and Madame Gu Xiulian, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committe of the National People's Congress.

 
 
 
Mr. Miller, Head of Mission, in his remarks said,"As I watched the news on CCTV 9 this morning, I was disturbed, dismayed and disappointed at the amount of violent and chronic contention, confrontation and controversy that exists among so many of the peoples of the world."
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
"But then I was heartened by the fact that, today, I would be in this group of persons celebrating ten years of increasing friendship and harmony between the peoples of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the People's Republic of China."

 

 

 
 
 

"The establishement of diplomatic relations between our two countries on May23rd 1997, will forever be a milestone in the history of man and it is a significant building block in the monument which President Hu Jintao has referred to as an harmonious global society."
